Leaving our pets behind is hard. Make sure you and your pet sitter have everything covered for peace of mind. This is your and your sitter’s essential checklist
Here is a checklist for you
- Anyone serious about caring for your dog will have or can easily get a Police check for you. This does not matter if they are just visiting or staying at your home as a pet sitter.
- Sometimes our pets can act out of character when we are away ! Make sure your home and content insurance is up to date
- Ensure your pup has a tag with your sitter’s mobile number on one side and your vet’s on the other.
- Ensure all your pet’s vaccinations are up to date and that you have all the medication your pup needs whilst you are away,
- Provide your sitter with your vet’s details, your pet insurance details, and emergency contact persons if something happens to your sitter. A list of places you will be staying and how best to contact you
. - Leave a box all labelled with your pet’s medication and doseage, preventives like tick and flea tablets, shampoo, brushes, clippers, leads, harness etc
- Give your sitter a breakdown of your dog’s daily routine so you can discuss changes
- Provide your sitter with as much detail about your pet’s personality. What they like and especially what they don’t like !!! Be very honest about their behaviour to prevent incidents.
- And lastly ensure you have enough food, enrichment items to help them cope with the changes
How to prepare your home for the sitter?
Organise a trial stay over, so you can ensure you have covered all the above and what your sitter needs too.
Ensure you have a welcoming room for your sitter to stay and walk them through your TV remotes, Wi-Fi passwords etc.
Make space for them in the fridge and chat about what is available to share and what is not.
Likewise have that chat about your home rules and boundaries which includes chatting about camera and privacy
